Woods of Berkhamsted: SAVE OUR GARDEN CENTRE
Sadly, Woods of Berkhamsted is facing the threat of closure because of the predatory practices of our neighbouring Waitrose supermarket. The development of Waitrose's stand-alone garden centre, less than 100 yards away, now poses an existential threat to Woods.
We are a proud member of the Berkhamsted community and have been for over 40 years! We work with schools, charities, theatre groups, encouraging young and old to get involved in creating a beautiful and sustainable environment. Already we’ve gained some local support and are greatly appreciative to anyone who understands our urgency to try and save our independent store.
Castle Ward councillor Stephen Claughton, who is taking up the case, said: “It would be a great pity if Woods were to cease trading in Berkhamsted, given that it has been such an important feature of the town for so long.” The story will be the p5 lead in the Berko/ Hemel and Tring Gazette.
We’ve created a petition for locals to help us add pressure to Waitrose, attached is the poster, press release and imagery: http://chng.it/cKPjzKn8
Our aim is call on Waitrose to reduce its horticultural offering and help save a local independent retailer with 40 years experience. I’m emailing, in hopes, your publication will be able to run the story?
I look forward to your response and able to answer any questions at your convenience.
Kind regards,
Lucky Acan
