Hello all,

My first post here!

We are planning to move to Norwich since my daughter will start uni in September 2022.

We currently live in Sutton, Surrey and trying to find a home there for the three of us.

Any pointers on the areas to consider? My daughter has to take bus to the uni so close to bus stops is also important for us.

TiA,

RH

Norwich is a great place to live, I moved here many years ago and never regret it for one moment. Warm-hearted people in general, though they can be a little reserved to begin with. A beautiful City and about 20 miles from seasides from the north round to the east. Delightful countryside all around. I'm not sure whether you are looking to rent or buy; lots of new student residences are being converted from previous offices and some newly built. Various parts of the City are much better value than others-- the so-called Golden Triangle is expensive and parking is a nightmare, mostly kerbside in narrow Victorian streets. Earlham is handy for the University; Mile Cross used to be a rough area but has gone up in the world, with a lovely garden-city-style conservation area. Lakenham might be a good investment-- it, too, used to be quite rough and prices still reflect that to some degree, but may well go upmarket the same way as Mile Cross and is again the right side of the City for UEA. Sadly our football team has just been relegated (again). Really they are too good for the Championship but not quite up to the Premiership, so constantly yoyo between the two.
All the best for your daughter's degree and for a happy new life in Norwich.

Hi barrenelly,

Thanks for the response.

We are planning to rent at this stage and may buy one if all goes well :)

We are following the ads in Rightmove and Zoopla around Earlham in 3 miles  but most of them are available immediately. We plan to move during end of August due to multiple reasons. The search will be on.

We have lived in flats for the past 6 years and this time will try for a house.

Regards,

Ajit

Hello

I too moved here some years ago.

The UEA, and surrounding area, is well served by buses so you are not limited to Earlham. It depends how long you want to travel. I used to live in Thorpe Hamlet, not far from the railway station, and buses to the hospital (from the station) took about 30 mins, about 5 mins on from UEA. That area is a mix of houses and flats, some Victorian and street parking, others more recent builds with parking.

Might be worth looking at bus routes and timetables. There are several companies, First and Konnect in particular.

The EDP is the daily local paper so their website can give you a flavour of the city/county. Norwich has some great pubs and Norfolk has many wonderful small breweries, so if you like real ale, you're in for a treat. There's an annual beer festival at the end of October.

Best wishes with house hunting and your move.
