NEW COMMUNITY CENTRE?
I was able to get a fair bit of interest in the idea of resiting the Ashford Community Centre (currently near the bridge in Woodthorpe Road) at the Local Plan hearing today - Thursday. The current building is in a bad way and under the much discussed Spelthorne Local Plan the Borough Council was proposing simply to rebuild the facility at the same location.
I pointed out at the Hearing how strange it seems that an important facility for the whole Ashford community should be on the very edge of our town. It would be far better, I suggested, if the new building could be built in the middle of the town where it would be much easier of access to local people. (There would certainly be a ready clientele from Brooklands Court which badly needs a community hall).
Hopefully we can make progress!
