Thousands of dead and dying fish in the river Anchor coming from upriver Woodford Lane and beyond and extending at least to Witherley. What could be the cause?

Hi, I walked a mile or so, of the Anchor today, near Caldecote. I was devistated, to see how many large dead fish there were, laying in the margins. With large Barbel, Chub & Pike laying dead! These are the adult fish that keep the stocks replenished every year.
This will have a severe, knock on effect, within the surrounding eco system. Such a shame to see.
I have reported what I have seen today, to the Enviroment Agency, so I hope they can get on the case, and find out what has caused this major disaster.

thanks for reply - the Environment Agency says it is a widespread disaster - Seizewood Pool, Nuneaton, and the Tame and Anker in Tamworth all affected - the fish, they say, suffocated from lack of oxygen. Cannot understand how the fish died AFTER all the rain which surely would have re-oxygenated the water. (what do I know?) The local canal, by the way, is full of very lively fish as we speak!
