Hi folks - back to upsetting people (not those here). Yesterday I wrote to the NEXTDOOR help and support line and told them and I gave them notice that they were probably in contravention of both EU and UK law regarding the DATA protection act by automatically releasing the full names, and full addresses and showing that location on a map as all the DATA is held on a computer system (probably in the US). I also told them that unless they change this format - it isn't illegal in the US - they might be closed down in the EU and UK  but whether they will actually take any notice is you're guess.

Well done Hugh.  Hope a few more Streetlife refugees manage to find this site.  Does anyone know if the coffee morning is still on this Saturday at The Elmer?

Hi Hugh,

I have just sent a post to Nextdoor making the same points as you and other Streetlifers about the total lack of privacy they afford.  I also mentioned their possibly contravening the DATA Protection Act.

It was a shock to discover that this was what was happening as I hadn't checked this aspect, expecting it to act responsibly, so thank you and all others for pointing this out.

I am now about to unsubscribe from Nextdoor - does anyone know if they take down our details immediately?  Obviously, they are still known about by others who signed up anyway.  Oh dear!

Hoping this site will offer greater security,

Stompey

When I was suspect of the security on next door. I attempted to unsubscribe from two other areas but up until they took over completely from Streetlife it hadn't happened. Which reminds me I must check I'm not on Next door, I didn't fill in the form on line but who knows?

Nice to see you on here Hugh.

I too would be interested in hearing about the coffee morning and if it's happening tomorrow.

NEXTDOOR's answer is that their servers are in the EU (Ireland) and they adhere to all UK and EU law. Which is a lod of bulls--t.
