Have just noticed that the deadline for applicants for the position of Town Crier end on 5th May at 5pm.  Do hope there are a nice lot of applicants. it would be so good to have a Town Crier like so many other seaside towns.

I would prefer to see the toilets kept open rather than spending money on a noisy man/woman

I agree, but having a Town Crier will up the tourist interest and hopefully the income to provide better facilities.

There were no applicants, so the date has been extended.  It's a voluntary position so only expenses paid and Toilets are Arun District Council's responsibility not Bognor Regis Town Council so it's not as simple as using the money elsewhere.

Apathy again? What about approaching retired military organisations?  An ex-sergant major would be ideal! I still think it would be a good idea.

I know information was sent to every organisation in Bognor which may have interested parties. It was in local press and Facebook and Twitter. Letters sent to British legion. Rafa club etc etc. Not sure what more could be done.

Unfortunately there is a lot of apathy in this town. People were keen on the idea of having a town crier but no one wants to be the town crier! Perhaps because it is voluntary (with expenses paid) but as you say it would not be appropriate at the moment for the council to pay for this role.

You could have a team of them programmed to go to all tourist hot spots!  Is there something in the water this morning?
