1.The present A14 works are permanent reducing the the A428 down to a single lane at Girton clover leaf. If the A428 is dualled along the rest of its length. More traffic will arrive at this point more quickly. This will mean a bigger headache for commuters heading east towards Cambridge and beyond where this bottle neck is being created. Queues at Girton and on madingley road where traffic merges into a single lane are likely to get longer as a result of planned A428works. The new dualling proposals should not be looked at in isolation of this. Otherwise they could be making things worse.
2. At caxton gibbet proposals are to elevate the A428 over the A1198 this means more noise and more of an eyesore across the landscape. Why can't the road dip down underneath the A1198 as at other junctions? Wildlife will find this a greater barrier
3. On the present A14 I've noticed near the wood green animal centre they've installed solid concrete central reservation barriers. This completely prevents wildlife from crossing the road. If they make it to the middle of the road then they end up unable to cross further and are killed. Please comment for this type of solid concrete barrier not be installed along any new dualled A428.
Just some thoughts, but please go to the highways England website and post your own views before the 28th July 2019.
