I just wanted to ask if others have been caught on the new cameras in Dulwich Village. Having not driven in the area fir months, I had to collect my son who’d broken down on his bike near Dulwich Park. I then drove through the village to return home. I have now received a PCN as I had no idea the village ( northbound towards Pickwick Rd) was closed at certain times of the day. Has anyone else been caught out by this. And if so we’re you able to have your PCN cancelled?

Hi

My husband received four of them so far, contravention code 33e, on the same place(towards pickwick road).

We intend to make a representation.

I too have been 'done' with this camera and have made a representation, if that fails I'm prepared to take it to court.

In short - I've cited that there is no notice given as you turn left into Dulwich Village, from E Dulwich Grove, there is no indication that you have entered a zone subject to any additional restrictions.

Taking the following route through and back out of Dulwich Village you also encounter no signs.

E Dulwich Grove, turn left into Dulwich Village, turn right into Turney Road then turn left into Burgage Road. Stop at the end where you encounter the 2 mini roundabouts with multiple traffic scenarios.

It is at this point you will need to look carefully right for traffic from the roundabouts and also the road to the right, plus looking for anyone turning left into Burbage who's not indicated correctly ..

From the drivers view point the signs are completely invisible due to the placement / height, see photo, and a correctly installed drivers mirror would simply be in the way for most drivers.

If you do suddenly see the signage after having started your turn left, you are faced with the option of braking hard or pulling hard to the right back onto the second roundabout as you make the turn. Both are highly dangerous manouvers and I believe would be considered driving without due care and attention should you cause a car behind you to colide with yours.

The council could respond with we don't need advanced signage, however they do actually provide it for changes on Calton Avenuewhen you turn into Dulwich Village from E Dulwich Grove, see photo,

I'll update when I hear back from Southwark. But I don't believe anyone should be paying this, depending on the route they took through Dulwich.

HI, I have also just received a PCN (Dulwich Village Northbound towards Pickwick road). I live in East Dulwich, this must be a new camera, I entered the roundabout from Dulwich Village and went around to go back on to Dulwich Village... then got stung! This is clearly a deliberate trap to catch motorists, very easy money maker. There is no improvement of air-quality, safety and flow of traffic, just to make money! we now just have to do a U-turn before the roundabout, or drive the long way around if you need to get back to Herne Hill or East Dulwich directions!  Crazy!

Hi, sorry to hear you got stung also. The crazy thing is that you don't even need to do a U turn, to get through the Village. Just turn left down Burbage Road, then right and right again into Pickwick and you are back in Dulwich Village.

Essentially, use more fuel (albeit negligible) and start to turn the neighbourhood roads into a rat run..

Do appeal it, the online process is quick, and frankly everyone with a ticket for this camera should appeal it. The camera needs to be moved, the signage updated to inform road users that DV has restrictions.

I would suggest there is enough proof that the flow of traffic is simply moved into sideroads and actually increasing accident risks and hence  show that this camera is about money, not safety.

Yes, I too have been caught by this camera trap. Coming from the junction at College Road, there are no warnings of cameras on the road towards the roundabout where the camera is situated. Furthermore, at the time, the only (red) information sign did not give any specific indication of restrictions. I notice that this has now been replaced with one that does. But there are still no warnings of cameras. I appealed, but after a delay of nearly two months, the council rejected it. Presumably, this gave them time to replace the sign, and concoct a bogus justification for the PCN. I paid the reduced (£65) fine in firm belief that there is no justice for motorists. But if someone is starting a petition against this unfair traffic trap, I will be one of the first to sign it. And then, everyone should be refunded. Life is hard enough at the moment, without these grifters making it worse.

Hi Chris

Sorry to hear you got stung too. I've still not heard back 7 weeks on from appealing. I will be taking this to court should they deny the appeal.

I'll update on this forum when I hear back from Southwark.

Hi happyrabbit, thanks for your support. Good luck with your appeal, and do let me know how you get on. I am tired of these councils always trying to screw us over. I never have any bother with national road cameras because there's always fair warning.

Best wishes

Chris
