Elgin High Street - lack of imagination
The very last thing Elgin High Street needs is another betting shop. Betting Shops are endemic in run down, poor, working class towns.
The Betting Shop business model is purely parasitic and is designed only to separate, usually the poorest and least educated in society, from their meagre spare cash.
Betting Shops, along with a surfeit of Charity Shops, are the well established route to town centre decline. Poor management, lack of ambition and lack of awareness of what is possible is evident.
Elgin Council is currently managing the continued slow decline of the High Street. Is this through incompetence, apathy, resistance to change ? No idea. Maybe just the wrong people are in charge.
Elgin High Street with its classic buildings and open space has huge potential, limited only by the imagination of the Council.
