Hi there

I am looking for information on the Durrant family of Friston. I think Henry Durrant, born about 1798, was my ancestor, he was a miller and moved to Wavendon in Bedfordshire where he married Elizabeth. Their son John Henry Durrant was my GGG grandfather.

Any info would be appreciated!

Hi Joanna.  I am researching the Windmill and Millers of Aspley Guise, including Henry Durrant. Did you find much about him? Paul

Hi Paul!

I have to admit the trail ran cold for me, but I was in Hemel Hempstead near Aplsey recently and noticed there is a Durrants hill road near the Mills, I wondered if that has anything to do with it all... if you have any information on the Durrants or the Mills I'd love to share! I have lots of old family documents that I can go through and see if I can find anything else out. Interestingly my family must have changed their name from Durrant to Durant, I think in the early 1900's.

The Mill was in Aspley Guise, Beds.

Henry Durrant died 1886 and his wife Elizabeth in 1891. His obit says he had milled there for 45 years. There are very few images of it as it was destroyed in a storm in 1900, when they said it had been out of use for 40 years.
