Due to the Norwich and Peterborough closing all current accounts as from the end of August this year because of  Yorkshire Building Society policy changes, I was wondering who to transfer my accounts to.

Does anybody have good experiences with their bank or building society that they would reccommend?

Nationwide Building Society has been very helpful, but the transfer will take 5 weeks, because N&P are not signed up to the quick transfer scheme; this reminds of Streetlight 'pulling the rug'!?!

I'd agree with Nationwide. They were really good when I was Power of Attorney then executor for gran's estate.

Nationwide are good but a lot of their local branches have closed unless you are a frequent visitor to the city which gives you lots of choices  it is difficult now a days to find local branches of any building societies.

We are in the same situation and thinking of T S B as they do current and savings accounts and seem quite good.Several local branches too and you can contact your branch direct unlike some banks! I use them already and am very happy with them.

Why not log on to Martin Lewis' site? It always has useful advise including best interest banks account and which ones at the moment have a financial incentive to switch. Some offer up to £100 . Switching is fast and easy if you use a bank which is approved in the switchIng scheme, which most large high street banks are.

I have just opened a 2 year savings account with the Yorkshire Building Society in Norwich (and I know they will be part of the same group together with the Chelsea Building Soc) But I got what I thought was a good deal. 1.75% APR at current rate. This is variable so that might be the rub, but at the moment this is good for me.

You could take a step sideways and support Norwich credit union... Check the website

I would have recommended my Building Society, Nationwide, but have heard a rumour that they are thinking of closing the one in St.Stephens and merging with the one up London Street. Same company but they are just merging the 2 together to save money I suppose.

It seems all banks/building societies  are going through a very unsteady phase at the moment. So choose carefully.
