Good morning.

I live in Penarth and have a small courtyard style garden, very approx 30'x30', built from scratch since 2006. In Spring 2020 we had almost continuous rain and I failed to cut my extremely small lawn, and it was eventually abandoned it to grow its grass and clover all summer. The bees etc had a marvellous time, and I thought In had done something good. In Autumn I cut it back and received many many very nasty bites. I thought the Winter would do away with this, but Spring 2021 proved me wrong. The situation has got worse and worse until now my garden is virtually unusable.

Getting in touch with the RHS entymologist and hours and hours of research appear to reveal that I have, Harvest Mites, Berry Bugs or what is known in USA where they are very common Chiggers. Invisible to the named eye, can get through clothing and burrow into your skin. There is apparently no direct way of killing off these vile creatures.

My question is has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so how did they deal with it.

Thank you for reading. Gill
