History of Podmore Area/Estate
Good Morning,
You will obviously see there is quite a difference in the time between us, the reason for this , I live the town of High River in Alberta, Canada. I lived in England for most of my life, moving to Canada shortly after I retired. I was born in Halmerend and lived there until shortly after the start of WW II when my parents who were involved in the war effort somehow were transferred to Lincolnshire, we lived near to a place called Frodingham where there was a major steelworks, a frequent target for German Bombers, after a couple of years my father (along with the family) was transferred to the City of Coventry where we were subjected to the Blitz of Coventry in November 1944. although there was massive damage to the city and its industry our family came through it O.K. We visited friends and family still in the Halmer End area for a number of years until everyone moved on or passed on.
The reason for my joining the forum is my quest for knowledge. About fifteen years before my retirement I started to research my Family Tree, it went quite well and when I moved to Canada I continued to pursue my ancestors. Everything was going well but in 2013 we had a massive flood in which the town and most of the surrounding district was lost to the floods, we along with many others lost our homes and everything in them, one of the big gest losses for me was the family tree. The house was ultimately rebuilt and once we were settled back in I started to research and rebuild my family tree.
One of my relatives Isaac (Ike) and his wife Mary(Molly) nee Rhodes Iived in Podmore Cottage , near Halmer End,with their children Stan, Frank and Gertrude (Gert) .
There is some confusion over Podmore Cottage as there are properties shown near Alsagers Bank with the name Podmore Cottage(s). If anyone can help with the history of the Podmore estate? it would be appreciated.
Sorry to be so long winded but I thought a bit of background information may help.
Regards, Stan Knipe.
