History on a nursing home, work house or hospital in the 1920s

I'm looking for information as to whether there has ever been a nursing home for mothers in the 1920s. Maybe a work house or hospital that they would have been associated with in maternity too. My mother was adopted in 1931, only known as Grace Violet (no surname appears on the adoption certificate) but she was born in Runfold in 1929. I am trying to find out any information as to where exactly in Runfold she might have been born! I have visited the village with her and know it is only a very small place. If anyone has any information at all, please could you share on here? thank you very much for taking the time to read this message and hope you will be able to help me.
