The pond on the right on the way to the sledging hill

Having spent much of my earlier years visiting my grandparents at "the view", I was often told of a local story, by my grandad (Ian Sanderson,still going strong at 93) about a ww2 training exercise involving a TANK, that sunk in the pond and was never recovered. This story has stayed with me for 30 years and I'm curious to know if any other locals know of this story? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for reading cal.
