A 5G mast 18 metres high is planned for the corner of Rockwood Drive and Gargrave Road in Skipton and not many people know. The mast also comes with three large units which will take up a considerable amount of the grass verge and no doubt block the view for drivers and pedestrians on the roundabout. Many people have health concerns but planning is such that objections cannot be made on these grounds (the scientific community are not certain it is safe, more research needed).
Successful grounds for refusal centre instead around visual impact and siting of the equipment. It will be unduly dominant and imposing on the skyline and will be seen from all around, especially due to the hilly nature of local residential streets.
The developer says the installation will be concealed by bushes, is not directly overlooked by houses and will blend in with the street lights. We do not believe this to be the case. The monopole is considerably higher than the mature trees and will detract from the environment for residents and visitors.
The mast would have a hugely detrimental impact on the visual amenity of the area, creates road safety concerns and could adversely impact on the mental health of residents. We hereby ask Craven District Council to prevent the development going ahead on this residential site.
