In 1958 I had a week's holiday in a caravan just outside Taynuilt on the bank of the River Awe. There was an Esso filling station (well, 2 pumps in a lay-by actually) between the road and the caravan site and I'm wondering if this is now the location of the Awe Service Station which I can see on Google Streetview. I'm attaching a picture of the filling station and the lads who were manning it. I seem to recall that the one on the left was Archie and the one holding the hose of the Esso Extra pump was Sandy. I wonder if anybody recognises them and if any of them are still around.

From left to right in the photo they are, Archie McPhail (known as Baldy) and the 3 male members of the Dawson family, Bill Snr., Sandy and Bill Jnr. Bill Dawson Snr had bought Crunachy Farm in 1956 and set about developing the farmhouse as an hotel (now Brander Lodge Hotel) and the nearby petrol filling station (photo) and adjacent caravan park.  Archie (Baldy) was the farm shepherd.  All are now deceased except Sandy who went on to become a well known local estate agent and still lives in Oban.  Awe Filling Station was later taken over by the Douglas family and is still operated by the son, Angus.
