Search for source of disturbing noise

I live near Denefield School in Long Lane, and from a week or ten days ago there has been a a noise like the feedback from an amplifier that occurs several times an hour all day and throughout the night. Although you can hear it in the house it is definitely from an outside source, but it is difficult to pinpoint the direction. My immediate neighbours hear it too and like us, have checked to make sure the noise does not originate in our houses.

Having only just started the noise must originate from a recent installation, probably electrical. Have any other Tilehurst residents heard this noise ? If so any suggestions as to it's origin and location ?

Yes I have and still hear it. I live in long lane too. It seems to start at all hours of the day and night and is sometimes so bad I can't sleep. Did you ever track down where it is coming from? I really cant figure it out but it is beginning to affect my ability to live in the house so perhaps it is closer to me. I just can't seem to find the source unless it is the building site at the top of long lane (the big development) or some kind of local installation as you say. It seems odd as it starts up in the middle of the night sometimes. There are very few times now when I can't hear it and it is really getting me down. I submitted a complaint to west berks council in the hope that they would investigate it. If you can still hear it it would be great if you did the same so that they take it seriously and don't treat it as if it is just one noise sensitive person. If you ever manage to find out where it is coming from I would be so grateful to know.
