I wonder if this would be a subject of some importance. (this was forwarded onto spotlight)

Myself and younger grandson are wild swimmer we often use Trevone beach.

The reason for this is my husbands family have lived there for at least 5 generations.

Its where we met and has always had a special place in the hearts of the whole family.

We were very surprised this year to see pay as you park scheme and even more so a camera was installed.

We always go and put our money in the meter for an hour then we swim go and home to Padstow.

During August we had family down and went to the beach mainly late afternoon/evening.

To swim, play cricket and take part in good old family activities.

This week we have had 4 parking tickets. One saying we were 2 minutes past the parking time. Another saying less than 5!!

My nephew who was down staying with us had 2 today.

I am not alone there are very many angry people here and I would say so for the visitors too.

One person drove in, drove around couldn’t find a space so left and unbelievably she received a fine.

Trevone is a wonderful family beach. I have been going there for 60 years as I say my husbands family have been there for generations.

There is no parking anywhere except the car parks.

My objection is that we have all paid to park maybe overstayed our allotted time by the smallest time but that should be enough.

This is greed anyway you look at it.

People have had a great day on the beach. Maybe staying to watch the sun go down

Swim, play a game of rounders, we have on occasions added extra time too our cars, has this been taken into account or even checked?

The letter is very threatening from AP alliance Parking and there is no way of getting in touch with them.

“Pay up or we will send in the bailiffs.”

I really wonder if the owners of this car park will release the animosity that there choice to go down this route has caused.

I really hope you investigate this,

Kindest regards,

MRS ELAINE EAD

My daughter and I also parked on the Alliance Parking car park at the end of August 2021. I used my credit card to pay then received a fine 10 weeks later and she didn’t. I am currently trying to appeal and using my credit card evidence. I’m appalled though at this blatant dishonesty and inaccessibility of this company. I am trying to establish who the land owner is so I can dig further. The Council have advised it is privately owned. Does anyone in the Forum know who it is? I honestly want to ensure a fair, honest and welcome experience to our visitors to Cornwall. However my appeal ends, I will pursue a better outcome for future visitors. Thank you.

I believe Graham Straker at the beach stores owns the beach stores carpark.

the carpark in the field is owned by Prideaux Brune  estates and I believe the national trust may also be involved.or the farmer.

Thank you so much for directing me to the land owner! Fingers crossed I can engage in a helpful discussion so Trevone car park doesn’t put visitors off coming.

You are entitled to a grace period of a 5 minutes to find a parking place and 10 minutes after ticket has expired.

Hi joeast, can you confirm where it states that there is a grace period for this car park? I am currently appealing with the car park operator and this would be useful to know. Thanks, M

There is a standard letter on one of the community websites to use in appeals. I used this and was successful. Can’t remember where it is though

Thanks again, I have accessed Citizens Advice Bureau information which sounds similar. Interestingly after doing some further research it appears that the grace period introduced in 2015 is only optional for private car parks! It will be interesting to see what happens next. Cheers.
