Affordable houses near seafront?

Hi there, I am considering moving to Whitley Bay. I want to be within walking distance of the beach and shops. I gather Monkseaton is sought after but possibly too expensive for me. I need a three bed property. What is Whitley Lodge like, please? Also, is Whitley Bay an easy place to make new friends? I would love to hear opinions from those who have moved from elsewhere.
