Hi I was born at the Wyndale Nursing home in 1959 and I have been unsuccessful in trying to find out about the nursing home.I believe it was knocked down. The address I have is 19,Ack Lane Bramhall. I am interested in all aspects of the home but I have drawn a complete blank. I have contacted stockport council but they couldn't help me. I just wondered if there were are retired doctors or nurses that still reside in Bramhall and could fill in the blanks.

I was born at Wyndale in 1953, it was on the site of office block opposite Turquoise restaurant, formerly occupied by Servisair. The Matron was a lady called Miss Wynn who used to ride around the village on a type of tricycle she turned the wheels with her hands using a contraption on the handle bars! Probably a very early form of mobility scooter. I don’t think there’s any pictures around but I vaguely remember the building. My brother and a school friend were also born there!

Hi, thank you for coming back to me. I justwondered if you knew when the building was knocked down. My brother was also born there and his friend’s mother died there in February 1962. I find it strange that there are no records about the nursing home.

Kind regards,

Nikki

I don’t know when it was demolished and sadly nobody still around who would know. If you find any more info I would be interested to know. I celebrated my 50th in 2003 opposite where I was born at The Orange Tree (the Vic pub) and it was still Servisair then. Sorry not much help!

Thanks for reply-Tbh I came to a dead end a couple of years ago. There are lots of things I’d like to know about the home and the running of it but unfortunately my mum died a few years ago and my dad doesn’t remember much about the nursing home as in those days father’s weren’t encouraged to get involved other than pay the bill! I just find it strange that it wasn’t overseen by any kind of medical trust. I do know when I contacted the Bramhall historical society that there was a retired doctor who lived in Bramhall who had a surgery there during the time that Wyndale was a nursing home but I never heard from him after I left my contact details.

The Doctor who would have attended was Dr Greenhalgh who’s house containing the surgery was on the site where Bramhall Medical Centre now stands. It was a private nursing home and most of my family were born there. Dr Greenhalgh and his wife continued to live in Bramhall after retirement and knew everyone in the Village as it was then, no houses on Dairyground or little Australia estate just fields. Pownall green was where School Mews is now and secondary schools were in Cheadle, so all very different but a great place to grow up in.

Thanks for the information-timing was good as I’m visiting the area soon and hope to continue my research.

Hi,

Thank you for the information. It’s been really useful. Do you know when the nursing home was demolished? How many beds it had and the number of staff?

Nikki

Hi

I too was born at Wyndale Nursing home Ack Lane Bramhall in May 1948 and also my sister in February 1950. I had two other sisters who died at birth there in 1947 and 1952 respectively. The gynaecologist who delivered me and sisters was Mr Walter Calvert who lived in Stockport.

I have tried without success to find out what happened to the two sisters who died, whether they were buried, cremated or otherwise?

I would be interested  to hear any further information about the former Nursing Home
