Co-op possible funding opportunity for Didsbury charities/causes - 0 replies
There's an opportunity for local charities, groups and causes to apply for Co-op UK's Local Community Fund. The deadline is coming up fast: 30 May 2021.
If you have a project that needs funding and it fits one or more of these 3 categories, you might want to give it a go:
- helping people with fairer access to food
- improving mental wellbeing
- providing opportunities for young people such as skills development/ training to help them make a difference in their community.
To apply, you first need to get your group signed up on Co-op Co-operate platform:
From there, you can apply to the Fund. If successful, the project funding cycle begins 24 October 2021. You can find out more/check your group's eligibility here: causes.coop.co.uk
It's particularly tough times for charities/CICs/Cooperatives, so it's worth checking it out if your group has a fab local community project that needs funding!
Good luck!

Millgate Lane - 0 replies
In the 1871 census Henry Pegg and his wife Mary were living at number 21, Millgate Lane, Didsbury with their five children and three servants, I can't decipher Henry's profession. Emily Maria Pegg (Vlies) their daughter, aged 10 at the time is my great, great grandmother. I have looked at Millgate lane on google maps and can locate the small cottages opposite the entrance to Fletcher Moss, these seem to be numbered 15 and 17 but where is number 21. I think number 23 is the large house after Kingston Road, therefore is number 21 the large house on the opposite corner. In the census numbber 21 is called Willowbank, yet in the probate record for Henry Pegg the name of the house is Willow grange. Can anyone tell me for sure which house was number 21. It's interesting in terms of social history, Henry Pegg comes from a farm labouring famiy in Derbyshire and when he first come to Manchester finds himself living in Hulme, 1851, in not the greatest of conditions but within ten years he is in Didsbury with 3 servants..was this a upwardly mobile move for the family? Is he in one of the cottages living cramped or in one of the big houses. Ten years later he has died and his widow finds herself living in Moss Side with no household help possibly from choice as the probate suggests she inherits a comfortable sum.It would be great if anyone out for a stroll that way could see if they could find number 21 for me as I am currently abroad. What was Didsbury like in 1871, I'm fascinated to learn more. Many thanks.
