Hi everyone,
I am a trainee at the Tavistock Centre to be a Systemic Family Psychotherapist.
As part of my course I am required to observe a family of at least two generations. The family should NOT be known to any services. (e.g. CAMHS/Social care). The family should live in or near Hackney area in London so I can travel.
The aim of this task is to learn from the observation experience about ordinary family development, relationships and communication. Learning about the scope and limitations of the observer role is also a major part of the task.
I will meet the family on 4 occasions in total.
1. I will make a preliminary visit to introduce myself and explain the process
and answer any questions.(face-to-face or telephone)
2.The second visit will be an observation/interview for about an hour and a half
that takes place in the family home.
3. The third meeting is to construct a family tree (genogram) along with the
family and to have the opportunity to explore themes and family beliefs and
relationships around this task. I will be guided by family members in what
families are interested in and happy to talk about.
4.There will be a final visit to get feedback on the process from the family,
to show appreciate and to check if anything needs further thought or
consideration.
An enhanced DBS, information sheet and consent form will be provided for families who are interested.
To show my appreciation for their support, the family who participates will be gifted a voucher worth £20 at the end of the observation.
I would really appreciate your support in this.
For further information or to express your interest please email me on: [email protected]
Many thanks.
