Someone asked the other day why MLF hasn't taken off like StreetLife did. There's a similar thread on the Norwich forum- there are plenty of ex Lifers out there, so why isn't everyone contributing? Also on the Norwich forum, people are concerned that their SL details, which should have been deleted, are being used to canvas for recruits to NextDoor. Anyone here received anything?

Hmm... I just got canvassed too. Seems like they're desperate for members and are working through the old SL list. BTW- watch out for 2 latest scams- Asian chap claiming to be from BT- your line is not secure, unless you give him various details it will be cut off in 2 hours. Ditto another one from Pozitive Energy. It purports to be an active (dormant) company, but there are no details online in the way of e mail address or phone number.
Yes the same here. I wasn't on Streetlife at the start. Was anyone on Streetlife at the beginning, did that take a while to catch on?
I've not been canvassed, maybe because I did sign up in the beginning, then promptly cancelled.
Hi, everyone! (anyone!)
I was on streetlife at the beginning, and all of us 'oldies' who joined up had, if i remember, leaflets come through the door about it, (as well as seeing it online), ie the old fashioned way of advertising. I'm guessing an awful lot of those that joined it hadn't had a lot to do with social media beforehand - so it was new, easy to use as well, and gave the means to able to chat to, and have discussions with neighbours they might not get out to see much. Then just when everyone was completely used to it, bingo! Cancel!
What the people who invent and run these things fail to understand ( in my humble opinion) is that the majority of older people who use social media, like streetlife (yes, it was obvious on some threads that some younger people went on it as well) do not react well to change. For instance, I myself the other day, logged in to my nationwide bank account, only to find that the 'format' had changed ( in the interests of security, don't you know!) Totally annoying, especially as i failed to see in any way that security had even been maintained, let alone enhanced, by the software geeks! So i believe that is the answer, all those that had been on streetlife for a couple of years simply didn't want the change, (to Nextdoor, or anything else) and as with most things, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Apologies if someone else already used that old adage.

I think you're right there. But when I thought of quitting MLF, several old SL-ers said no, don't- but are now maintaining a resounding silence.

Also, becauseI I was dead nosey, I noticed on streetlife (by looking at peoples' profiles), many many more simply registered on it than actually used it, even putting their own faces etc in the profile window!
So, did lots just read what others wrote all the time?
Some seemed to be never tempted to say a word!
Why register and never use it?

It struck me there were several- and it was the same names every times- who seemed to read things just waiting for a chance to be argumentative or criticise those who dared express opinions! Still, it's a bit sad that all those who were on SL and who urged us all to join MLF are now sitting back and not taking part- in fact, that the only topic that gets any kind of contribution is the one asking why there are so few contributions!
I'm disappointed that more in my area are not joining or just not posting. We had quite a lot of contributors for Norwich on Streetlife with lots of discussion.
It is nice to stay local but I'm also happy to look further afield. Unfortunately it seems the same all across the country so far.
I'm staying hopeful that it will get better.

Lilian- chip in and add your 2 pennorth- the more that contribute the more likely it is to get moving.
I do my best Erik but as you've found it's difficult to get people interested in your
posts..
