Lancaster University Students’ Union is committed to ensuring students have a fulfilling time at university. We work towards that goal by getting involved in every aspect of the life of the university, providing a wide range of services designed to make time at the University as fun, fulfilling and fantastic as it can be. We also provide support services, so that if students are experiencing challenges, they can get the support they need.

We are beginning a change programme with the goal of updating our governance and democracy structures. This will ensure that we have the right systems, structures, policies and procedures to be as effective as possible and deliver the results our students deserve. During this change programme, we will appoint new Board Members and a new Chief Executive who will work together to set a new ambitious strategy.

We have seen a recent upturn in our commercial performance, but long-term financial sustainability and diversification of income streams will be critical to our future success. It’s important for us to build a collaborative culture where we empower students, staff and volunteers to work collectively as a positive force for change and achieve even more for students. You’ll help to drive the empowerment of others.

This is an incredible opportunity to support an organisation through a period of change, and help us create the culture we want. In our quest for financial sustainability we would benefit from candidates with expertise in finance, business and human resources to complement our existing expertise.

We value the commitment of our volunteers and where possible will set meeting dates as far as 18 months in advance.

We are very proud of the diversity of our students and strive to be inclusive, diverse and brave in our actions and activities. We have a good mixture of age and gender diversity on our board, but we are currently underrepresented with people from BAME communities. We welcome applications from any candidate who shares our values and commitment to inclusivity and would like to encourage candidates from BAME communities to strongly consider this opportunity.
