Rockford

Hi. My name is Jane, my maiden name is Stratton. My Great Great Grandfather John Stratton used to run a shop in Rockford around the 1850s and is listed in at least 5 consecutive census documents as living in Rockford during the period 1841 to 1861. He died in 1866. I would like to find out more about Rockford in those days, and if possible, his shop.
