Soon to be in Strood

Hi,
I was hoping to introduce myself and if possible gleam a little information about the Strood area.
I will be spending a couple of months in Strood later in the year, (end of summer time) but know very little about getting around or what activities may be available, places to visit etc. For example I know where the railway station is in Strood, I will be staying around this specific area, but where do you catch buses from, I don’t drive so would be discovering the area on foot or by bus. Are there any reliable taxi companies in the area?
As I am over 50 what, if any, meeting places or clubs or coffee mornings are there where I could perhaps meet people.
