Two Victorian Novelists and Social Observers: Flora Thompson and Thomas Hardy, who both wrote about life in the rural world - a world that was rapidly changing in the late 19th century, when the 'old ways' were beginning to disappear and the advent of mechanisation had begun, along with other changes. This is a WEA online course (via Zoom), so you can participate from your own home. To be held from 10.00 am - 12.00 pm commencing Thursday 21st September 2023 (8 weeks). Two 'Giants' of the Art World: Aubrey Beardsley and John Ruskin (Two influential figures of their times, both were artists, art collectors and art critics. Beardsley is forever associated with the controversial 'yellow book', links with Oscar Wilde and his professed desire to shock people. Ruskin was a more serious and introspective character, but someone who is still controversial to this day, for various reasons).
