Hi Badgerbrad

I am interested in these photos. Might you be able to give locations for them on Google Maps/Earth? I am following the line of the Colliery Railway at the moment on maps from NLS and  Google for a blog article (rogerfarnworth.com). I am wondering whether you might be willing to allow me to share the pictures properly creditted, on the blog?

Kind regards

Roger

Hello Roger,

You are more than welcome to use the images, They are from near the bottom of New England lane Highley where the Brook crosses the road as a Ford. Here's a link New England lane The Bridge itself is an old Pack horse Bridge it's is known locally as the Donkey Bridge and is in New England where there was a small community ( My neighbour was brought up there) There is a plaque there and the remains of one of the houses. If you wish I could take some photos of the plagues that are there ( think there are about 3).

I take it from your comments you are not from Highley or in Highley at the moment

Brad

I'm not an expert on this but there is also a section of railway which went to Kinlet Coal mine ( Plenty of info online) I have walked this the |Mine buildings are still standing and you can see the embankments and some small bridge sections. If you were ever to come here I could easily take you to these or I can take photos for you as I'm always wondering about with my dogs .I have sent my Email address to you as a private message.

Thank you Brad, I live in Telford and am hoping to walk some of the route of the railway on Friday.

Thank you for the offer, I might come back to you if I don't get the photos I am looking for.

Best wishes

Roger

Hello again Roger,

Just to let you know if you carry on along New England lane from Highley go through the Ford and follow the Road up the hill you will come to Billingsley Village ( just a few houses at this point) On your right in the field are a number of the original Mine buildings in quite a good state of repair , they are worth a look if you are coming over. The field is effectively private but I have been in there many a time and ended up talking to the locals. Entrance is through the metal Farm gate. If you are going to look at the Donkey Bridge and the railway remains come down New England Lane past the few Farm/ Horse stable buildings on the right then past the pile of bricks on the left about another 1/4 of a mile on the left is a small layby with a path off to the left. Follow this path down keeping right and you will see the Brooke and the Donkey Bridge plus a fallen Railway Bridge. Cross the Bridge and follow the path to the right ( to the left you will see someone's memorial) This will take you along the path over various Iron railway Bridges and in the end will take you to a small building which was the original weigh bridge.

Enjoy you Walk

Brad
