Fracking

I have just become the leader of the Frack Free Penistone and Stocksbridge group. Although Penistone town has not had a licence to drill granted, large parts of the Penistone East ward has had a licence granted as well as the whole of the Stocksbridge area. In fact if you look at the constituency as a whole the majority of the area has had licences granted.

Does this mean that we are going to be effected? The answer is YES! because landowners in the  Oughtibridge area have been approached for sites to drill. Hydraulic Fracturing requires huge quantities of good quality water to be delivered to the site and a similar quantity of polluted water to be removed from the site. This water has to be moved by road tanker particularly the waste polluted water. This traffic will have an impact on local roads.

Pollution does not stay at the site of the drilling and this could have an impact in Penistone.

The extraction of fossil fuels causes global warming. Our government is telling us a lie by arguing that shale gas would help us reduce our carbon impact on the climate and reneging on commitments they signed in Paris to counter global warming. Fracking is notorious for the escape of methane to the atmosphere and methane is 23 times more powerful as a green house gas than Carbon dioxide.
