Fortismere Community Choir is inviting everyone and anyone to come and enjoy a day of singing together this summer - whether you used to sing and can't seem to find the time any more, or have always wanted to join a choir but never taken the first step. There is no need to be able to read music, or be familiar with the pieces in advance - join in with us for one, two or all three days and feel the magic of communal singing!

We are running three workshops this summer, and the final one is on Saturday, 13th July at Fortismere Music Centre, Fortismere School in Muswell Hill N10. The theme for the workshop is 'Songs from the Shows' and the pieces we'll be working on are:

Working Girl: Let the River Run

Carousel: You’ll Never Walk Alone

Medley from South Pacific

The focus will be on enjoyment and as well as working on the chosen pieces, there will be fun exercises to develop singing technique.

Tickets are £10 for the day and includes tea/coffee. Please bring a packed lunch for the break and a mug!

Book online at www.fortismeremusiccentre.co.uk or pay on the door. Email [email protected] with any questions and hope to see you there!

We are running three workshops this summer, and our second one is on Saturday, 15th June at Fortismere Music Centre, Fortismere School in Muswell Hill N10. We will be focusing on two works: one is Britten's Ceremony of Carols (a taster of what we will be performing at Christmas) and the second is Borodin's thrilling Polovtsian Dances. If there is sufficient interest on the day, there will be the option to attend two or three rehearsals on the following Tuesdays and work up to singing the Borodin at the Fortismere Community Symphony Orchestra's concert on Saturday, 6th July.

The focus of the day will be on enjoyment. In addition to working on our main pieces, there will be fun exercises to develop singing technique.

Our Musical Director Cathal Garvey says: "The Creation choruses are really joyous, and I've chosen a mixture of easier and harder ones, so that there's something for all levels of experience. The focus will be on enjoyment and as well as looking at the Haydn choruses, there will be fun exercises to develop singing technique."

Victorian Vending Machine - 0 replies

BillHall Posted by BillHall in General Kirkby Stephen discussion on Mon May 20, 2024 2:30pm

Have just taken a walk aroud Kirkby Stephen on Google Earth. 65 years ago at the junction of Silver Street and North Road, stood Toy Shop.

On the gable end built into the wall, was an ancient Vending Machine, defunct in my day. Seems that the insertion of a few pennies would be rewarded with, a stamped picture postcard.

The corner looks to have been redeveloped, perhaps that end shop was demolished.

So does anyone know the fate of above machine. Or have I only imagined it's existence.
