Defending Brynamman
Hello Brynamman,
I would like to share an unsavoury experience with you. First, half of my family originate from the Cwmllynfell and Brynamman area and was a regular visitor there during my childhood days in visiting relatives, attending the open air baths during long hot summer days and numerous nights out in the cinema there during the weekends. I attended secondary school with many Brynamman people of which some of them became good friends. I played a few hard rugby matches against Brynamman Youth RFC with good natured banter between the players after the game. (My club was Amman United. I hope you won’t hold that against me. ) I have now moved away for many years, but recently visited the town.
I came across a comment on social media which basically slated the town and amongst other things saying it was just one big council estate. Because of my affinity with the town I took umbrage at this comment and wrote to her defending the town and if she didn’t like it she can always move away to where she originally came from ( which is over the border by the way).
Her reply included further criticisms of Brynamman (referring to the town as a s**t hole) as well as personal attacks on my character and standing. It seems she resents living there. Naturally I am angry at these stinging comments towards Brynamman and myself and would like the good people of Brynamman to know that you have one horrible unsavoury character living there amongst you who give me the impression that she hates living there. I am unable to further defend the town or myself due to actions she has taken. I have much more to say. One of the purposes of this letter is to let off steam and get things off my chest. I’d like you to know that my action was only to defend Brynamman.
Regards,
Mr. I Thomas
