Hi,

I'm new to the forum & I'm doing research on the pubs in the area, particularly 'those that were' and those that are closed but the buildings are still with us?

Perhaps members can help with 'two puzzler pubs' at Leadgate. (1) What was the name of the 'built in red-brick' pub located (and joined to) the Leadgate D. I.Y. store next to the traffic lights?

(2) I'm told that the famous 'Back O' The Shaft' pub (where the vets clinic is now) had 'a proper name' - does anyone know what it was?

Regards

I think the first pub you were asking about was the Sportsman's Arms and the original name of the Back O the Shaft was the Black Horse
