John Smith Haverflatts Farm Milnthorpe
I'm looking for information about the Smith family who lived at lower Haverflatts Farm in the 1700s-1800s. Jane Smith born 1837 Kendal was my 2nd great grandmother, she married David Hadwin. Jane's father was James Smith and he appeared to be Ostler at The Cross Keys Inn in the 1840's. James married Jane Wilson. James father was John Smith born 1770 who married Dorothy Bindloss and he was a farmer at the farm. His father, also John Smith appears to be born around 1731 and died 1781 at the farm. His wife was Hannah (possibly Newton) It appears that John Smith senior was new to the area but I can't find where he came from. If anyone knows any of the history behind the Smiths I would appreciate some help. Also if anyone is aware of any Romany or Gypsies/Hawkers in the area I would be fascinated to know more as there is rumour of Romany on this side of my family.
