Hi. I`m researching a member of my family who sadly committed murder in Shotteswell. This is what I have so far.

When John Coleman was born on 29 January 1771 in Warwickshire, his father, JOHN, was 44 and his mother, MARY, was 38. He married Catharine Rainbow on 17 November 1806 in Shotteswell, Warwickshire. They had one child during their marriage. He died in 1853 in Shotteswell, Warwickshire, having lived a long life of 82 years.

John went bankrupt to Earl Guilford and in 1831 killed (shot) Edward Goode.(An Edward Goode was a witness at the marriage of Richard Coleman and Hannah Betts Johns Grandparents. Was Edward Goode related ? )John was apprehended by the village police constable Thomas White (White was also the maiden name of Johns mother. Were Thomas and John related? ) John was found guilty of manslaughter and was sentenced to transportation for life. The inquest into the death of Edward Goode was held in the Flying Horse Inn. In the beginning John was taken to Woowich harbour to HMS Ganymede which was once the French frigate Hébé captured in 1809. She was converted to a prison hulk in 1819 and broken up in 1838. He was taken to the prison ship Justitia on 24th March 1832.

In the 1851 census John is living with his son and family and weirdly the next-door family`s last name is Goode. John actually died in Shotteswell in 1853. Johns wife was Catherine Rainbow who died in 1844

Edward Goode left 7 children, his 8th child died about 6 months before Edward was murdered. His widow was Elizabeth Archer.

The prison hulk remained in the Humber estuary. Strangely John died in Shotteswell and was buried there not in some strange land or ship or prison even.

If anyone knows anymore I would really appreciate the help. Thank you.
