Fund raising for Sophie a 26 year old victim of stage 4 cancer.

Hi everyone. My name is Alexandra but everyone calls me Aleka as I am Greek or Alex. I am 57 years old and I am married to a Scottish man for 35 years. I moved to England with my family about 10 years ago. In Greece I was an English teacher, I had my own private school and for 25 years I was teaching English as a foreign language (TOEFL) to children and adults aged 4-seniors. Since I came to the UK I worked as a nanny till last year that my husband Ray got sick and I became his full-time carer.

I have 3 lovely kids Niko 34, Natalie 33 and Alekos 32. I am a proud grandma of 3 lovely girls Melina 5 and a half, Aria 16 months old and a new born (a week old). My kids are all in relationships and I love and treat my son in law and my daughters in law as I treat my own kids. They are my life and I will do anything possible any time they need me.

My youngest daughter in law is Sophie 26 years old. My son introduced me to Sophie 8 years ago and since then she has become a member of our family.

Sophie unfortunately on the 1st of January 2020, was diagnosed with breast cancer, at just 23 years old. Just as lockdown started, she began treatment and had to begin shielding, meaning she had to go through most of the treatment alone. She went through six rounds of chemotherapy; surgery to remove the tumour and four weeks of radiotherapy. Only 9 months later, we were told she was cancer free!

3 years later, in June 2023. Sophie unfortunately was told that the cancer is back, and it's much worse than before.

The kids were planning to get married in Greece this summer but as they found out about the health issues and as they had the previous experience and knew what to expect they decided to get married immediately before the treatments start.

Alekos and Sophie are together for 8 years and they have a beautiful little 16-month-old girl called Aria who was Christened as well as Sophie, on the day the couple was married in a Greek Orthodox church in Reading as well as in Reading register Office.

The cancer this time, is Stage 4 Triple Negative Breast cancer that has metastasized to both Sophie’s lungs and she has 2 tumours in her brain as well as skin cancer. We have been told that the cancer is not curable as these things can't be removed so the only thing, we can do is treat it.

Unfortunately, Sophie doesn't have a long-life expectancy. The doctors have said that if treatment is successful, she will live from 6 months to 2 years but we believe that miracles happen. We hope we beat every statistic going so she has as much time as possible to be the best mum ever to her little girl.

We want to raise some money so Sophie, Alekos and Aria can have more options for treatments that may be out there, as we can't sit by and do nothing, not to mention that they are currently homeless. We also want them to have a comfortable and happy life for as long as Sophie is here to make the best memories with her family. Any money not used will go towards Aria's future.

Anything you can donate, no matter how small, we would really appreciate. Anyone that knows Sophie would know she's the most selfless, loving, caring person ever and she deserves to have the best life possible for whatever time she has left.

We are organising a fundraising event on the 1st of October between 11.00 – 19.00

in the Sonning Common Village Hall, Wood Ln, RG4 9SL

Lots of activities for children and adults, snacks, treats and cakes, stalls with lots of things to buy!!

At 3 o’clock our good friend Kathy will have her head shaved in support of our aim.
