Hi; thank you for letting join the forum.

My name is Darren and I live in Bedfordshire.

When my Father passed away a couple of years ago we found something in his possessions that originally belonged to a man called Robert Leslie Wickenden who was born in Southborough in 1896 and I would like to trace any direct living descendants to pass the items on as they may be of sentimental value.

Nobody in my family knows how they came to be with us but we suspect that Robert may have served in WW1 with my Great Grandfather. We do have some family from Kent but I've searched for ages and I can't find any real connection.

I know Robert served as a (Horse) Driver in the Royal Field Artillery; married Lilian Stokes in 1925 and died in Hendon in January 1933 but the trail goes cold after that.

I'm about to send off for his death certificate but if any of the above sounds familiar then please get in touch,

Many Thanks

Darren

Hi Darren,

This topic is five years old, but just in case you're still trying to trace relatives of Robert Leslie Wickenden, I thought I'd let you know that I've put a little about his family tree on the Family Search website:
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G8NC-YDJ

I did this because I have an interest in the A6 murder of 1962 in which James Hanratty murdered Michael Gregsten and raped and shot Valerie Storie. Michael Gregsten's wife was called Janet Gregsten and she was the daughter of Robert Leslie Wickenden's wife, Lilian Wendy Stokes. Although Janet Gregsten was born whilst Robert Leslie Wickenden was still alive, I suspect that she wasn't his daughter.

There's more information about all this on the Casebook forum:
https://forum.casebook.org/forum/social-chat/other-mysteries/a6-murders/768523-janet-gregsten

All the best,

Jon

Hi Jon, thanks for taking the time to send me this information, it's all very interesting.

I traced one of Robert's brothers to Canada, but he passed away a few years ago, I contacted local Canadian media to see if they'd be interested in helping me but no-one responded, so my search continues, and your information is really helpful.

The A6 murder was an interesting case with much compelling and conflicting evidence, my mother-in-law attended the trial.

We don't live far from the layby, and I've held the gun at a local Police Armoury (unless the Police were winding me up).

I didn't question it at the time, I'll have to enquire and see if it's still there.

Regards

Darren
