Looking For Ancestors and Connections - 0 replies
Hello to all,
My name is Thomas NORRELL and I am looking for anyone who can provide details of any of my ancestors in the wider Ballyclare area, especially in the Parishes of Rashee and Kilbride. I do know the surname "Norrell" is not too common in Ireland as a whole and it is generally not found outside County Antrim, apart from appearing in the 1850s to 1870s in Queen's County (now Co Liex) at the village of Emo, and Emo Court. Also, a couple of appearances in County Down. Within the Ballyclare area there were Norrell (sometimes spelt, Norrel, Norell, or Norl) families lived in Ballyeaston Townland, Dunamoy Townland, Rashee Townland, and Kilbride Parish. Other family connections by marriage in these areas are, ALLEN, ESLER, MAGEE, and ROBINSON. Prior to 1908 there were at least 14 Norrell graves in the Old Rashee Cemetery. However during 1908 this Cemetery was re-registered and afterwards there were only 5 Norrell graves remaining. Today there is only 1 Norrell grave marked with a headstone, which indicates on the back "2 graves". Officially there are no burial records for Old Rashee Cemetery. However there did exist an unofficial burial book (kept by the grave diggers), from which I obtained the information above. Unfortunately there is no actual names of those buried, just the family surname and in some cases the full name of the owner of the grave. Where is this book now? Any information about anything I have mentioned above would be greatly welcome. I would be especially interested in knowing where abouts (exact location) these families lived and indeed if their house / farm still exists. Today, the main areas where the Norrell family can be found are LARNE (where I was born). The Norrell family also existed in Lisburn and Belfast areas. Outside Ireland there are branches of Norrell family in West Sussex, Essex, London and Perthshire. Any help / pointers would be appreciated, especially if you think you may be related. During the 1990s I lived at Castle Upton, Templepatrick, Ballyclare, BT39 0BE, Co. Antrim.

I have recently bought an english silver J G Graves pocket watch and chain. On the chain is a silver anvil which is inscribed J Williams, blacksmith, Coedpoeth. It dates back from the hallmark to 1897. Trying to find out any history about who originally owned it please?
