Dickinson - are you the Dickinson family I'm searching for?  Are you related to William and Mary Ellen (nee Harle) who lived in Edmondsley for many years in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Children William jnr, Joseph, Florance, Lillian, Edith Jane and Rueben.  William and Mary are buried together in Sacriston churchyard and Joseph is buried in Heaton Cemetery, Newcastle.

Joe worked as a bus driver in the 50's

I would be grateful for any information

Hello,

I have been searching for my missing grandfather for many, many years and have just discovered that both he and his parents lived at No.7 Claytonville Council Houses in Edmondsley in 1930's thru 50's.

He was born in 1897 in Burnhope, his father was William Dickinson, his mother Mary Ellen Dickinson nee Harle and they had six children, Joseph, William, Florance, Reuben, Edith Jane and Lillian.

Joseph Johnson Dickinson gave no.7 Claytonville as his home address for his second marriage and I believe he was living there in the 1940’s with his parents and brother William who was born in 1912.

The reason I am searching is that my mother Hazel Dickinson is the child of his first marriage to Ethel Scarlett in 1924 in Consett and was unofficially adopted out to a Dickinson. She is 91 years old and has never met her father as he went missing straight after the marriage and was certified missing presumed dead in 1932 however he clearly was not dead and remarried from Edmondsley in 1948 to Ann Borthwick and died in 1956.

My mother is an orphan and has spent her life looking for family and I feel there may be family members still in Edmondsley.

I visited Beamish Museum about 20 years ago and saw an employee who looked identical to my mother and foolishly didn't speak to her and wished I had been more bold.

Thank you, Ann
