Was your Dad a miner during the 1980s pit strike? - 0 replies

Kieran100 Posted by Kieran100 in General Penrhiwceiber discussion on Sat Apr 8, 2017 10:49pm

Hello

I am currently undertaking some PhD work on the legacy of the miners' strike and what it meant for the next generation.

If your Dad was laid off by Thatcher - I'd like to ask you some questions if that's ok.

Private message me...

Thanks

Hi

My Great Grandparents, Charles Wastie & Prudence Hughes ran a bakery in Penrhiceiber back in the early 1900's.  they had at least two children born while they lived there - my Grand Father Albert Wastie & Doris Wastie.  They later moved to the Bournemouth area.  I think that Charles may have gone bankrupt

Charles Wastie was born in London, but I know Prudence Hughes, who he married, came from the village.

I would love to hear from any relations on the Hughes side still living in the area & if anyone has any information or photos they are willing to share.

Thanks ins advance

Peter

Hello all.   I'm am seriously thinking about moving to  Penrhiwceiber And buying a house.  The market prices are well below average and I really am looking for a lifestyle change after living my whole life inner city.   What is it like there.  Are there any jobs that might be available to out of towners.   I would be self sufficient for at least a year with a cash purchase for the property but would need to have an income at some point.    Any advice that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for reading this.
