Trying to locate any old photographs of the Marsh family 1850-1950 - 0 replies

Jordan95 Posted by Jordan95 in Ancestry and family history in Wakefield on Mon Mar 6, 2023 8:44pm

Hi guys,

Trying to locate any information or old photographs of my ancestors (The Marshs) I am researching Tom Marsh & Emma Marsh who lived in Manor Haigh Road in the early 1930's. darley bungalows and thornes lane in the late 30's and late 40's.

Tom worked at Paton & Baldwins. He later lost his sight at some point in the 1920's. He had 5 children. Clara 1891-1961 (Later Milner) Willie (1893-1917) Lucy (Later Skinner) 1894-1959 Harold (1896-1974) & Annie (Later Stansfield) who lived on Gordon Street in the 1960's.

Hello,

I'm currently recruiting for a number of positions that need filling urgently . Several companies that base their operations online but have offices in USA are looking for staff due to expansion and UK residents are able to apply. These are online, remote jobs working from home with good pay. Some oppertunities are paying over $200 per day.  Most positions are between $15-$25ph.

Job Types Available -

Writing Reviews - You must be able to write comfortably using .doc or .txt software. (notepad, microsoft word) 1000 Word reviews as a standard unless otherwise instructed.

New App Testers - You must meet the hardware requirements below and have at least 5 Gig of space on your phone or tablet for downloading beta apps (apps that are still in development)

Proof Readers - You must be able to spot mistakes in grammer. Some magazines are sent from countries that don't use English as a first language. The magazines are in English but before print, they're sent to testers to read and report on grammatical errors.

Requirements -

You need to be comfortable reading English, as that’s the language most of the jobs are in and the companies use.  If you’re reading this easily, you’ll be fine on that front!

You also need: an Android or IOS phone or tablet; internet access; and 8 hours minumum available each week.

To get started, simply send me your e-mail and tell me which job type you're applying for . You can apply for more than one. You don't need to send a CV at this stage as I'm only pointing you in the direction of the company. You may need to show your C.V to the recruiter if they ask, so be prepared for that. Most often replies are within 24h and you can be earning within a day or two.

You must be over 18 years old to meet the requirements of the companies.

Many Thanks

Thomas Forrest.

Wakefield what's it like - where are the best places to live? - 0 replies

TonyHSFC Posted by TonyHSFC in General Wakefield discussion on Tue Jul 21, 2020 10:07am

Hi All,

I am considering moving to South Yorkshire.

I am thinking of buying either a flat or small 2 bed house in any of the following areas, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Wakefield and Leeds or anywhere in this area that people might recommend.

Since I am not from the area I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experience of these areas in terms of where to buy and where to definitely avoid.  I know that I can contact estate agents but would be wary about the information I might receive and think that it’s better to ask local people who have local knowledge.

A nice flat always seems a good choice but I am concerned about the maintenance charges being high as this could easily add £100 or more to my monthly bills so it would be nice to have an insight of what I could expect to pay although I expect it can vary greatly.  A freehold house with a nice small maintenance free garden might appeal too and would mean no monthly maintenance charges. My criteria is to get the area right and obviously it needs to be attractive and no work required. Other considerations are the job market in those areas and unemployment rates.  I realise that I have to do extensive research which is just beginning so any advice and tips about where to get additional information would also be greatly appreciated.

My initial review has revealed that there is no shortage of properties on the market and from what I am seeing plenty are selling so that's obviously a good sign too.

I would also be interested in opinions on the merits or disadvantages of buying close to the city centre.  In the past I have always thought that property close to the centre tends to have a higher purchase cost...but given what is happening to the high streets with businesses closing even before Covid 19 does it really mean much these days?  I am wondering if it could be a disadvantage given that many centres also have a lot of trouble especially at weekends when people go out and drink to excess.  I have seen a couple close to the centre so just wondering what others think concerning this.

I might be emigrating in about 12 to 18 months too, so if I do buy it would be nice to also know that it’s in a good area so would not be difficult to rent out as I will want to keep the property for the income it could generate.

I will have my own 'wish list' which should help me narrow properties down quickly but it's the areas that I'm stumped on.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks Tony
