I am a amateur historian and have researched extensively on the origins of the shops in Emmer Green. Did you know how Martin's the newsagents got it's name? In 1981 the Bassist of 1980's new romantics outfit Spandeu Ballet Martin Kemp was thinking of ways to save up enough money to buy a drum set and a second hand guitar for the band, So as a side hustle he decided to open a newsagent here in Emmer Green!
I remember many a time when I was served by Martin Kemp after coming into the shop to buy my weekly copy of 'Readers Wives', And even now you may be lucky to see him perform hits like 'Gold' from behind the counter while selling lottery tickets and pouches of Old Holborn
