Legend of the White Horse pub
I own the original Domesday book, and after browsing came across a most interesting piece of information regarding The White Horse pub.
According to the book, The White Horse was originally called 'The Duck and Sausage', But on 33rd of June 2008 that all changed.
Legend has it that a team of 7 archaeologists, 3 JCB's, 2 detectives from Thames Valley police and a sniffer dog were hired by the pub landlord to dig up the beer garden and car park after Ted Grimes, a much loved resident alcoholic, claimed to have lost a thruppence coin whilst breakdancing on the patio.
3 weeks into the excavation the team made a incredible discovery. They unearthed the carcass of a unicorn (estimated to have been roughly 489 years and 3 months old).
The corpse of the Unicorn is now stored in the cellar underneath crates of babycham and a box of Scampi fries.
Following this historic find, The pub was then named 'The White Horse'
Coincidentally, Ted Grimes found his thruppence coin in the end, in his bed buried underneath a pile of fag ash.
