Hi, I'm part of a local archaeological research team collectively known as WKD Archaeology. We have several sites in and around the Tunbridge Wells area, including Southhborough and High Brooms. Our aim is to find, record and publish research on new archaeological sites in our area. To date we have excavated Kent's oldest recorded Bloomery Furnace (primitive iron production in Brokes Wood) dated to around 340BC! as well as several areas of significant prehistoric activity in the Southborough valley. More recently we uncovered evidence for an iron age site near Forge Farm as well as a 15th C. Forge. All our research is freely available and anyone with an interest in our local heritage feel free to get in contact.
Regards
Nigel Stapple - Landscape Investigator, WKDArchaeology

Not sure whether this is widely known yet but, regrettably, Costcutter may be within days of closing down. A tragedy for the staff too.

Just to say that the hold up in Southborough is due to traffic lights almost outside The Gallery hair salon.....

Hi; thank you for letting join the forum.
My name is Darren and I live in Bedfordshire.
When my Father passed away a couple of years ago we found something in his possessions that originally belonged to a man called Robert Leslie Wickenden who was born in Southborough in 1896 and I would like to trace any direct living descendants to pass the items on as they may be of sentimental value.
Nobody in my family knows how they came to be with us but we suspect that Robert may have served in WW1 with my Great Grandfather. We do have some family from Kent but I've searched for ages and I can't find any real connection.
I know Robert served as a (Horse) Driver in the Royal Field Artillery; married Lilian Stokes in 1925 and died in Hendon in January 1933 but the trail goes cold after that.
I'm about to send off for his death certificate but if any of the above sounds familiar then please get in touch,
Many Thanks
Darren
