Another of my Great Aunts, Gertrude Florence Wright Shaw, born in 1889, in Retford, appears in this photograph.  She is the one dressed in Tartan.

Could your own Grandmama or Great Aunt be one of the other dancers, by any remote chance?

The picture was probably taken around the time of the First World War.  But, it could have been anywhere in the country.

I am not sure what, exactly, the picture represents.  Is it the lady of the manor and her servants, perhaps?  My Great Aunt Gertrude was partially lame, so whether this was some kind of display for a fashion house or part of s performance, I cannot say.

My mother once spoke of Gertrude working as a dancer in one of Lancashire's coastal resorts, but that, I am afraid, is all I know.

(There is also a picture of Gertrude sitting by herself, in a chair, wearing the same the same outfit).
