Did you ever work at the Northern Rubber Company or the Albert Paper Mill?
When Horace Wright Shaw, proprietor of the Sun Inn in North Wheatley, died in 1940, his wife, Lucy Alice Shaw, moved with three of her children (Gertrude, Edgar Lucy and Ivy) into 3 Beehive Street in Retford.
In 1943, Gertrude and Lucy went to work in the Glove Department of the Northern Rubber Company and continued to work there until retirement in 1958. (After 1950, they moved to 22 Woodlands, in Retford).
Edgar went to work at the Northern Rubber Company in 1950. But he worked in the Textile Department instead.
At a later date, I believe, he went to work in one of the paper mills in Retford - the Albert Mill, perhaps? He never moved to 22 Woodlands, but rather remained at 3, Beehive Street, until he died in 1963.
I believe Edgar wasn't in very good health, having suffered a number of childhood illnesses.
Would anyone happen to remember him, by any chance? Or Getrude and Lucy Shaw, who went to live at 22 Woodlands?
In the picture below (taken outside 3, Beehive Street) he is standing in the back row on the very right. Gertrude Shaw is seated on a chair, 3rd from the left, while 4th from the left, is their elderly mother, Lucy Alice Shaw.
If anyone remembers any of these people, I would be very glad to hear from them.
