Hi Tracy

Welcome to the Streetlife Refuge ..... I'm sorry that you are the only one in your area.  I think we're quite lucky that we have quite a few Norwich ex-Streetlifers.  We did set up a campaign to vent our anger at Nextdoor and advertise this site - but Streetlife kept blocking our messag...

Do keep chatting to us.  Perhaps Jen's 'General Chit-Chat' heading will invite others to join us from other areas.

My guess Margaret67 is it is all to do with money I do not understand why an American company would want to buy out streetlife, it definitely had a good format but I am sure this site can be just as good given time.

Here is some 'General Chit Chat'.

I live near the Heartsease roundabout and last year a thriving Co-op was sold to Budgens.  The staff kept their jobs.  Recent reports in the EDP stated that some Budgen stores were closing including those in Norwich.  There is a  'Closing Down'sign outside my local Budgens. Since the takeover I've rarely shopped in the Budgen store as I find it more expensive than the Co-op (especially the wine - lol) and there is also an Aldi opposite and a Tesco Local a few doors down.  Despite that competition I did regularly shop in the Co-op.  Whenever I went in there was generally a queue at the counter and the staff were so friendly.

I went in tonight and chatted to the member of staff serving me - they are now losing their jobs.  It is so sad for them.

I wish it was still the Co-op.

I just find this sight a little bit more complicated.

Yes I do agree it is not so simple to use a bit cluttered but I will persevere in using it, hope you do too.

I cant understand how anyone can want their address published and surname to, as on Next door ,  I live in an apartment block with an unusual surname and I wouldn't. Surely in this day and age its very risky with identity theft etc, to show this much information, so im a bit surprised so many seem to have agreed to it,  Also personally I had no desire to be taken over by an American company. far too much comes from there now, m uch of which id rather not have, Macdonalds is one thing and all burger bars, and also Donald Trump,  Nextdoor was another American thing we didn't need. I am fascinated by the improbable coincidences that have happened to me.

I got into a bit of a chat about star signs when I was in a lift in Birmingham. I know no one in Birmingham but it turned out that a woman in the lift had the exact same birthday as me to the day and year. I said that if there was anything in astrology we should have had the same life stories. &n...

...bsp;We chatted and as we left the lift I told her that I was married with three children -  Sam, Ben and Daisy.  Was I surprised when she told me she was also married, had two boys named Sam and Ben, and her cat was named Daisy! What are the chances?

I have has several experiences like this.    Anyone else?

David.

Very unusual coincidences!

When first married (63 years ago) we could not find anywhere to live so temporarily rented 2 rooms in an old part of Norwich.     A relative was doing a family tree recently and found that husband's great-grandfather had actually lived and died in that house many years ago.  Spooky!

Another coincidence:                                                                                                                                                                         We bought a bungalow a few years ago ( the owners had died). Cousin in Australia was writing to another family member and told her our new address.   They were very surprised to hear that we now lived at this address as the previous owners were friends of theirs and they wondered why they had not received Christmas cards lately. Again, spooky?

Just registered and looking around. Totally agree about missing local chats on streetlife. Perhaps Wayne hasn't signed up ye! We need to get a subject started to give it a kickstart, I will try one. Linda
